Built here.
Operated here.
Accountable here.

Orenda develops, owns and operates battery energy storage systems (BESS) in New York City. Our projects help make the grid more resilient, keep the lights on during peak demand, put private investment into local infrastructure and create skilled jobs in the neighborhoods where they're built.

We are not a developer that builds and leaves. We operate what we build, which means the people who live near our projects are our neighbors for decades. This page is where we put our commitments in writing, share what independent experts and reporters are saying about BESS, and point you to sources beyond us.

Our Good Neighbor Pledge

We develop and operate BESS in the communities we serve, and we intend to be there for the long term. From a project's earliest stages, we engage residents and local officials and keep that dialogue open through construction and operation.

We commit to being transparent, responsive and easy to reach, for the life of every project.

We will:

  • Meet with neighbors and local officials at the onset, and keep meeting through construction and operation.
  • Answer questions directly and provide the information the community asks for.
  • Hire locally and work with local contractors and suppliers wherever we can.
  • Build and operate to the standards set by New York State and the City, including the FDNY's nation-leading fire code for BESS.
  • Stay reachable with a designated Orenda contact for every project, with a response commitment.
